RED CENTRE LADIES DAY EVENT

14th of October 2023

The Red Centre – Rural Ladies Day was a huge success. The very first gala dinner to be held in Alice Springs to celebrate and recognise the contribution rural women of the Central Desert Region make to life on the land. With 90 attendees and over 10 of them travelling from interstate just to attend the evening.

We had live entertainment from the one and only, Tania Kernaghan and local duo, The Wanted Gems

mesmerising everyone with their magical voices. Travelling from Interstate we had guest speakers Jillaroo Jess and Zoe Carter women that have been in the agricultural and cattle industries for many years, with a popular and vast social media following these women wowed the crowd with their adventurous lives and amazing stories.

Our beautiful MC, Sheri Lee Volua a drag queen from the desert won the hearts of our guests with her vibrant, funny personality & kept everyone on their toes & entertained all night. Darlyhne and Shay from CoCo&Co bent, spin and flew from above in their aerial hoop all whilst pouring our guests a glass of bubbly as they welcomed everyone into our event. We received many generous donations from the community & decided to hold a quick auction where we raised $1350 donated directly to RaisEducation.

We put a call out to the public to nominate 3x red centre rural women who make a massive contribution to life on the land, that volunteers her time to committees and is actively involved in community events. Contributions of Rural women often go unrecognised, so we wanted to thank, recognise and praise the efforts of these women by awarding them with a trophy and gift packs.

Watching as the sun went down over the beautiful ranges our guests enjoyed mouth watering 3 course meals presented by Reality Bites Catering. Our complete night was captured by the very talented photographer, Dimity from The Rural Diary. We will be forever grateful to all our sponsors, grant donors, volunteers and everyone who attend our gala dinner. We have paved the way for the women of the Red Centre and opened doors and minds into recognising the tremendous work these rural women do every day!

After the many conversations had on the night and the feedback we have received since, it is definitely an event that was much needed for our region and we are very excited to bring it back in 2024.
